Used thoughtfully, black interior design can be luxurious and powerful.
If you are shy about using black or other seriously saturated colors in your home, I’m here to help give you the tips that can make black work for you.
The most important part of using a black interior design or an exterior design is to use it thoughtfully and with intention. That means that it can’t be an afterthought. We all stumble upon those ‘happy accidents’ that just miraculously work. It’s less likely to happen when working with bold colors or patterns.
So what does designing with intention actually mean? What are the steps? It’s easy.
Just think about the material, and whether the material is a rich material or reads as cheap. In some colors and patterns, and otherwise seeming inexpensive material can be elevated by the color or pattern. Black is a tougher color. So stick with materials that seduce you into touching them: fur, leather, and furnishings that have tufting or embellished with metallics.
I’ve been ogling several black interior design images on Pinterest, and gathered them below to share what I’m liking about each.
