I love furniture in home decor. Love it. Unlike Theresa who’s eyes probably see color first, I’m drawn to furniture whose finer points elevate my spirit. Seriously.
Something well-made makes me happy. I get to color later, after I figure out if the place is furnished with well-disguised junk or not.
And this leaves me with a problem of sorts. By the ‘Rules of Craftsmanship’ (that I am making up, but we all know exist) I’m forced to hate half the stuff I see bolted and botched together from restaurants to reach-in closets.
This is also why, by the same rules, I’m forced to love using cabinets as the furniture.
Forget about a media center that looks good from far, but after a year or two, far from good.
We’ve used cabinets in a number of Theresa-designed projects and they work. Really, really well.
Now Wellborn Cabinets is jumping into this home decor design pool with both feet with their Whole Home Design Solutions. We love some of the designs we’ve seen from cabinet style to color.
To our mind, cabinets make great furniture—from mudrooms to media centers—so our advice is to think outside the box by thinking about boxes: Cabinets as home decor, gulp, opens doors.*
*My nearly felonious use of cliches bothers me, but in this case I’m giving myself a pass because they actually work. ‘The Rules of Craftsmanship’ allow it.
