Color it FRESH!

Over the years as a contractor visiting people’s homes for estimates, I’ve had to find ways to sum up people—and projects— quickly. Some you can joke with or mention the big game. Others are as serious as a heart attack. Still others shop price (including mine) while some have never even seen a real contractor before.

Color that works for the whole house.

Whatever the case, it doesn’t take long to gauge which people are kicking tires and which really want to fix their houses the right way–and how the conversation will go after that.

I use the same technique when I’m talking with other contractors at DeckExpo, JLCLive or the Remodeling Show so I can get a vibe for where they enter the spectrum of industry knowledge. Oversimplifying it, there’s no sense talking about advanced process techniques to a guy who has been on the job for a year.

I also employ the same technique when looking at building products and the companies behind them. I want to work with companies that understand the house as a system, whether that’s interior design, plumbing, or kitchen retro fits. One thing doesn’t stand alone. Everybody has to play nicely in the same sandbox for things to work.

So I tell you that story to tell you this story about Kate Smith of Sensational Color and Color Expert for DaVinci Roofscapes. She has written the new 30 page FRESH Home Exterior Colors Guide (free download) to help people select the perfect colors for their home’s exterior. But what I’m digging is that it is not just for the roof, but…you know what I’m going to say…it’s for the whole exterior—roof, windows, siding, doors, and trim.

Everyone plays nicely together…isn’t that sweet?

As Kate says, “This step-by-step tutorial provides guidance and tips on understanding your home’s exterior features and playing off of them with color accents.”

Getting the right color blend on your home’s exterior is not hit or miss. It is an art and an expertise. And you want the right guidance to help you along the way.
