I have a major crush on creative upcycling. And while Pinterest and Instagram are always available on my phone for a quick creative fix, there is nothing like sharing ideas in-person with a group of like-minded DIYers.

For a recent DIY workshop that I was lucky to host, my challenge to the group of DIYers was to upcycle a wood item from the ReStore into new creations for their homes. The workshop was inspired by my own recent project where I made a flower planter from a wood chair that I found at the Habitat ReStore in Bucks County, PA.

Beyond the delight in seeing what everyone creates, and having an opportunity to help them achieve their goals, a favorite part of a DIY workshop at a ReStore: the questions that upcycling aficionados ask. The questions are insightful, challenging, and interesting. I discover new ways of solving challenges just from exploring solutions and sharing my experiences.
