Liquid lunch: Using a bar stool as an office chair for a stand-up desk

One of the best parts of a stand-up desk is what you sit down in: A bar stool.

And while everyone raves and rages about the benefits of a stand-up desk—and many are true for me: I’m more productive, my body is less chair-shaped, I have fewer needling pains from slow-death-by-clicking (does it show that I have analog running through my veins), naps are regrettably harder to take during work, etc—you don’t stand up all day. Or even all the time. Or even most of the time.

The beauty of a stand-up desk is that you can stand-up when you want to and still keep working. On the phone. Writing checks. Stapling things. Looking commanding.

Most of the time, though, it’s butts in seats. After all, it’s a desk.

And that’s what no one really talks about too much. At least I didn’t in my how to make a stand-up desk blog. I mean, I mentioned it all the important parts about height and stuff. But I didn’t go into any creature comforts like, for example, where to get one or what a good one is. Or how much one might cost ($99).

Reason is, I didn’t quite realize that the stool my hind quarters currently reside in, well, completely sucks.

I knew it wasn’t great, but didn’t glimpse the full breadth of its suckery (is that a word?) until I sat in LampsPlus‘ beautiful Boulton when they hosted MyFixitUpLife’s podcast tour in Las Vegas.

Ahhhh. Comfort. And the right height.

Also, awesome looking.

Boss for a man’s office and gracefully refined with a small back for the small of your back. Part belly-up bar stool, part bucket seat, all get-work-done stand-up desk partner that you’re butt is proud to be seen with.

Want specs? This is what you need to know for your stand-up desk project: We sat in the Lamps Plus Boulton Chrome and Gray Adjustable Barstool. That’s Style # 5C832. It comes in black and white as well. The seat height adjust from 25 to 33-inches. And the chrome compliments the colors. The square base is bitchin’. And the height adjustment action works. Well. Perfect for a stand-up desk.
