Decorating with pineapple finials to amp-up our festive decor seems like a natural choice to me. Here’s why.
It may seem odd to associate pineapples with the holiday season, but it actually makes perfect sense to me. The holidays are a time of year where we are reminded to share our joy with others, and to make a difference in the world. While we try to practice those ideas every day in the work that we do, it’s easy to get tunnel vision in the day-to-day of a busy modern life.
So I was thinking that if pineapples are a symbol of welcoming–and have been for centuries–and the holidays are a time of year that reminds us to be more inclusive than exclusive, then the two should join forces in our festive decor in our home. Little quirky reminders that we should be grateful, and kind throughout the year.
Of course, it doesn’t end with just a plain white pineapple. I am obsessed with personalizing everything in our home. So adding a touch of metallic paint to the pineapple is not only on-trend, but it adds a little shimmer and shine that I associate with festive decor.
To makeover the pineapple finials from our friends at Fypon, I chose a gold and a silver paint. So here’s a tip: If you’ve never painted with metallic paint, and you are surprised that a quart could cost more than $30, you’ll be kicking yourself later if you buy the less expensive quart of paint.
Inexpensive paint has more water in the mix, and for a little project like this with all of the details, and opportunity for the paint to perform like a game of Plinko on the Price is Right, the watery paint will turn a joyful project into a frustrating project. And, a quart of metallic paint will last through many projects.
I added shades of blue with the metallics to give a bit more modern take on holidays. I’m not a traditional green-and-red holiday girl. But that doesn’t mean those are bad color choices. It’s always important to pick colors that speak to you, that make you happy, and bring a little cheer into your home.
