Nature-inspired colors and textures are even better with bold color pops.

I think this sign shows it off... Organic meets bold. Hello 2016.
I think this sign shows it off… Hello 2016.

I was delighted to see the bold colors popping up like a ‘springtime of happy’ at residential design and construction’s biggest trade show event, Design Construction Week.

It wasn’t that these vibrant colors were in every company’s vignette or on every designer. Each color was a visual treat, like a little bit of dessert served carefully, craftily, and effortlessly striking. Among my favorite color pops were the bright yellow at American Standard, the Tiffany blue at GE, the high-end pink stove, the red phone booth at Roxul, and the collection of coffee tables covered in saturated hues at Formica.

Surrounded by the ever-popular neutrals and the surge in nature-inspired finishes and textures that are soothing and spot-on for the general mood of the country, the little pops were like finding gems in the sand. And among the color and neutrals, white—the ultimate color of positivity—also shined, too.

The colors weren’t alone in the happiness department. They just visually showed me what we were all feeling as a collection of professionals in a building industry that has endured some challenges in the past decade.

As soon as I walked into the Las Vegas Convention Center, I felt the energy. It’s been a few years since I’ve felt so much positive energy at a residential construction trade show. Seeing so many in the aisles, after a string of trade shows with more serious countenances, was truly my favorite part.

I’ll be sharing the new products that were on display in the coming weeks on this blog. I can’t wait to find out what you think. Share your comments below, or send me a note.

White in organic shapes is making a strong presence in surfaces, cabinets, accessories, too. This was a show stopper at the Formica booth.

I am delighted to see color popping up at the International Builders' Show side of DCW. I'm taking a happy moment in Spax.

I spotted my favorite bold color at Roxul's booth. Yes, even insulation companies were showing the trend.

Spending some time with Jill Waage from Better Homes & Gardens. Check out that yellow at American Standard behind us.

Despite my silliness honoring the tech guru-ness of Chip Wade, the mix of nature-inspired and bold white in the Fabuwod cabinet booth shows the trend perfectly.
