Sock shoes: cozy or crazy?

Sock shoes exist. And I’m dealing with it.

Not sure about socks over shoes. This was spotted at Milan Fashion Week. Might be hard to walk the runway…

Sock shoes?

So I understand the general interest in wearing sock shoes. They seem warm, cozy, and generally fun.

But how did a category of footwear pop up that competes with the slipper?

I had previously thought that the slipper took care of that between area between sock and shoe. But now my world has changed. And I’m not entirely comfortable with it.

Here’s why.

First off, the sock shoe reminds me of the Eastern State Penitentiary, where guards wore socks over their shoes to dampen the noise of walking so they could hear every noise from the inmates. A practical purpose, but not a positive first reaction.

And then the sock shoe seems to fall into a few different categories. All of these categories give me bouts of confusion.

Baby sock shoes. There’s the sock shoe for the baby population. Babies aren’t generally treading on rough terrain where a harder sole is needed. The softness of a sock shoe might be a good choice, and baby clothes can pretty much look like anything and they are cute. This is a category of life where size does matter. The small version of anything from a shoe to a vegetable to a car looks adorable no matter what it looks like. (Curious if there are exceptions to this general rule. Enlighten me, if you have examples. I’d love to know.) But, why does a baby need a shoe? I’ll leave you there.

Practical sock shoes. Then there’s the practical category of the sock shoe. This category confuses me, but after checking out some athletic versions of the sock shoe, there is descriptive evidence that the sock shoe performs in various ways that are beneficial. I don’t engage in these activities, so I’m curious and will trust the athletic experts.

Stylish sock shoes. So beauty is something that can convince me of almost anything. There are sock shoes worn on the runways, which would seem to be a slip hazard. But when I spotted the sock shoe from Christian Louboutin… I wanted to try on a pair. But how do you clean a sock shoe? Dry cleaners? Or a cobbler shop? I’m still curious and confused.

I’ll be pinning sock shoes on Pinterest until I figure out how I feel. Share any you spot with me info@myfixituplife.com.

I get the practicality of this sock shoe, sort of. But not sure if I'm 'ok' with it.
