Hoosier Homemade’s Doug and Liz Latham built this wood pallet deck for their side yard. We’re finding out what they learned along the way.

Building with wood pallets to create a deck can seem like a time-saver or a headache. And we’re betting that’s it’s a little bit of both. Which is why we’re talking with Liz and Doug from Hoosier Homemade who recently built a wood pallet deck for their side yard.

What kind of site prep do you need to do? What about footings? What about the openings between the boards? And how do you secure all of those pallets together?

Yes, we have a lot of questions about building a wood pallet deck.

“Building with Wood Pallets are all the rage, and I love how cool and rustic they are, so I was excited about the idea. One problem though, Wood Pallets are often times too rough looking with broken pieces and the slats are too far apart. He [my husband] assured me that he knew of a place that sold Wood Pallets and they weren’t all built with large openings.” — Liz from Hoosier Homemade

Liz and her husband Doug strive to help you Be Heroes to your Family through easy DIY projects, creative crafts and simple everyday projects, including hundreds of cupcake designs. Check out their website at HoosierHomemade.com.

Hi!

Your blog provided us useful information to work on. You have done a marvellous job!

Thanks Deanna. We have lots of pallet tips and projects here if you’d like to know more — http://myfixituplife.com/DIY/?s=pallets

I didn’t think about building a deck out of wooden pallets until I came across your article. Using wooden pallets would be a good option for me to use for building a deck, because I have a bunch of pallets left over from the last project that I was working on. Your pallet deck looks great, so it seems like it’s possible to make it work as long as I prep my wood correctly. It doesn’t seem too difficult to prep pallets, so I should be able to figure it out. Thanks for posting this!
