Here’s a problem-solution that might be a stretch. But it’s one of those surprising solutions that’s just so fun that it’s worth the extra strain to connect the dots between a very serious problem and this super-fun solution.
Problem: Stair accidents account for about 1,300 deaths in the US annually, according to the World Health Organization. And when it comes to stair accidents at home, women and boys up to age 14 are at the highest risk of injury.
Solution: Take the slide, instead of the stairs. Yokohama-based atelier level architects designed a three-storey home with a slide that has a continuous slide from top to bottom. A fun approach to mundane up-and-downs, the home is lit with vertical openings in the roof and an interior courtyard.
