Why should I paint my ceiling a color other than ‘ceiling white’?
One reason, says designer Donna Frasca, is that in certain circumstances: “It looks like you’re in a coffin.”
In a less extreme, but no less relevant example, you can paint your ceiling to not only match, but to bring out your decor. It doesn’t have to be white says ‘tactical’ design Lori Sawaya.
Another tip from Donna: To add subtle color to a ceiling, Sherwin Williams White White is soooo white it almost looks blue as opposed to the plain ceiling white paint everyone makes.
For the ever-awesome ’tray ceiling’ Lori is passionate about making the transition from wall to ceiling with a bright, glossy crown molding. And both agree on a big rule-break in small rooms, like a bathroom or even powder room: Paint the whole darn thing the same, deep, rich color.
The transition lines disappear and a small room—with a not white ceiling—feels bigger. And, of course, more awesome. And the beautiful thing about paint: You can always change it.
