I love home improvement, but some days are better than others, notably, those NOT spent renting, using, and returning a jackhammer to break up concrete or boulders.
Among the nastiest items I’ve have to break out are concrete steps. Monolithic pours, there is just so much concrete that whaling away at them with a jackhammer all day for little bits to come dribbling off is just brutal. And slow. Two things I don’t like.

Ecobust, however, seems to have outsmarted concrete and rocks that have to go. It is an expansive liquid that can break huge pieces of concrete or rock apart, with nary a sound—and in just a few hours according to the company. Drill a bunch of holes in the material using a rotary hammer. Mix up the Ecobust (it looks like hydraulic cement) and pour it in the hole. As it hardens it expands, reaching up to 20,000 PSI.
The expansion busts the slab or stair or rock apart from the inside out. (History note: The ancient Egyptians had a similar technique for calving huge blocks out of quarries. They drilled holes, stuffed wood dowels down into them, then soaked the dowels. As the wood swelled, the rock sheared off.) Ecobust says that the product is ideal for residential projects and large scale commercial demo. I like it. Also, Ecobust is safe and doesn’t leave anything behind—other than concrete and rock you can now manage.
