Candy and flowers? Valentine’s craft with seed paper

Seed paper is a fun way to share flowers in a Valentine’s card.

Even when sharing little Valentine’s with a classroom of children, chocolate is usually received with smiles. Flowers are bit more difficult to pack in a backpack for a school day, so we’re taking a different approach.

I found this company called Botanical Paperworks that makes seed paper.If you have never used seed paper, here’s what you need to know. It cuts and glues just like any kind of thick paper. The seeds are embedded in the paper, so you need to put the seed paper under a thin layer of soil and water thoroughly. Keep the soon-to-be-pot-of-flowers in a sunny spot, and you’ll be able to watch the little flowers grow.

Since Valentine’s only happens one day each year, and we think it’s fun to remind our friends that we care about them everyday, this little crafty project is our way of sharing a bit of delight today with a chocolate and little reminder of our friendship that lasts a bit longer.

A little flower can be the perfect reminder that we care.

To make this project:

1) Use a Fiskars squeeze punch to cut out the flower shapes with the seed paper.

2) Cut colored cardstock to size for the background.

3) Use repositionable Glue Dots to affix the flower shape to the seed paper. With this type of Glue Dots, it will be easy to remove the seed paper later when the recipient plants it.

4) Draw a stem under the flower shape.

5) Use the Glue Dots to affix the little candy bar to the background as a leaf.

6) Embellish. We used a little heart sticker.
