When installing a new wood floor over a damp area (like a basement), use tar paper instead of red rosin paper to block moisture.

Measure for square by making a triangle: A2 + B2 = C2.  The bigger the better.

Coping crown molding is awesome, but not all crowns can be coped.

If you notch a joist, you reduce the strength of the entire joist–not just the notched area–to however much wood remains.
