Lighting is a tough category for me. I appreciate the multi-zillion designs that exist, yet at the same time, so
much of it feels the same. And so much of it—and trust me I’m a cheapskate; being cavalier with budget just ‘aint my thing—seems to be designed with planned obsolescence in mind to meet a price point that I start to lose interest. Then I see a guy at the International Builders’ Show making a light—yes, by hand. Right there. I am transfixed.
A smith for the Bevolo gas and electric light company he tells me all kinds of details that go into their lights which can be run on natural gas or electric fuel. Made in New Orleans, LA, these lights are top-drawer, above-the-fold, rockin’. And you don’t have to break the bank and buy a house full of them—although that would be great—you can design an area (front door, light post, interior wall sconce) around them. Or with them in it. Bevolo offers design services, can make custom lights, and offers everything from furniture to mailboxes. This company is a secret someone should shine a light on. Gas or electric will be fine.
