FixitUpFind: Far-Infrared Wall Heaters

Here is a space heater that looks really, really cool.

Made by Prestyl USA this is more flat-panel-TV-Meets-High-Art than a utilitarian plug-in heat-hydrant.

The technology, according to Prestyle USA is a highly efficient and maintenance-free “far-infrared, thin-film technology.”

I don’t know what this means, but it has been used in aircraft, ships, trains, homes and public buildings for nearly 16 years. Far-infrared technology does not heat the air, rather the energy is reflected by some surfaces and absorbed by others, creating a balanced and silent multidirectional warm experience—and they use less energy to heat the space than typical heaters.

Energy savings, according to the company, over traditional heating methods range from 15 to 50 percent depending on placement and building conditions.

And, you can personalize it. The panels come in white or black or can be customized to any color or design with many standard prints and graphics to choose from. You can even send in a family photo. They’re ideal for residential, institutional, or commercial applications where primary or supplemental heat is needed, they can be wall or ceiling mounted, require no plumbing or air-ducts, and plug into a regular outlet. Installation is as easy as hanging a picture. It’s portable, transferable to new locations, and operational in minutes. Prestyl panels range from: 24x 24, 24 x 48, and 41.5 x 41.5 inches. Prices range from $350-$700.
