Theresa’s FixitUpFind: Father’s & Food Shopping

My dad has always done the grocery shopping.

Every Saturday morning my dad has left the house for the weekly errands: grocery, dry cleaning, and gas fill-up. Always returning by 11:30am for lunch. Reliable routine. Very dependable. And maybe not so unusual anymore.

My dad’s grocery trips weren’t typical for most of my friends’ households when I was a kid, as most moms were the grocery getters. But, Parenting magazine shared a stat recently that 51 percent of men are now responsible for the grocery shopping. And my Mark, just like my dad, is one of the those men. (thank you!)

Like a lot of parents who work from home, we eat almost every meal at home. And, well, combined with kids and pets that means we consume a lot of groceries. I’m proud to say that this domestic effort from my husband has not gone unnoticed out in the world. Mark spends so much time at the grocery store that store manager recently presented him with a special kind of ‘club card’ at the store, the manager’s mobile number, and other special perks.

Now, Parenting magazine also shares another stat that wives will love. Men may be hunting the food at the grocery store, but they also are bringing their domestic talents back into the home. They are representing at the burners in solid numbers: 39 percent of men are responsible for cooking.

And in my wife playbook, chores score huge husband points.
