Creating something new from something old charms my artistic DIY soul.

2015 MyFixitUpLife Love Wall

Yes, I love making wall art with uncommon items. There’s a nagging challenge in my brain to create something that I haven’t seen before, which is increasingly more difficult as Instagram and Pinterest are constantly showing so many amazing creations.

Wall art is actually a fun way to try out new DIY skills, tools, and ideas on a smaller scale. So if you are thinking about doing a faux paint finish, or working with crown molding, head for your Habitat for Humanity ReStore and seek out the cut-offs and cast-offs to play with on a smaller scale. Your skills will grow exponentially, and you’ll be able to complete the wall art in a much shorter timeframe. And a successful DIY project can build confidence in trying that next new project you are inspired to create.

So when I am browsing the showroom at my local ReStore, I look for items that I can use in a current project, fill a need, upcycle into something I need, or items that strike my fancy.

When a pile of light switches gave me the Grinch smile,  I took them home. I painted the switches and arranged them to spell the word love on a wood board.

The step-by-step photos and details are in the link below. I hope you are inspired to create something new. I’d love to read your ideas in the comments below.
