Getting ready to get ready for Halloween…

Jack was a firefighter for his first Halloween

At our house, we haven’t really done much beyond buying candy and costumes for the kids for Halloween. Jack is going to be a monster and his sister is planning to be a Native American.

And wIth the porch renovation, I haven’t dared to buy pumpkins or do anything festive out front. But, the good news is that the porch is pretty much finished. Well, at least all of the muscular work, like the roof, trim, hanging the new screen door, and painting. We still need to hang the lights, mailbox, house numbers, and new doorbell. But, we’ll be able to take down the ladders and break down most of the tools in the front yard for the trick-or-treaters. (Thank goodness!)

So, we were invited to a pumpkin carving party, and with the delay in Halloween decorating at our house, I started looking around at ideas for pumpkin carving.

Have you ever wanted to carve a pumpkin with power tools? Well, then check out www.extremepumpkins.com. The site creator Tom says power tools are huge time saver. He suggests: jigsaw, drill, sawzall, angle grinder as a giant sander, and more. He recommends against a chain saw. Says it made a huge mess.

And, DIYNetwork has some its popular hosts carving pumpkins with power tools on its site. You can view video of Cool Tools host Chris Grundy, Desperate Landscapes host Jason Cameron, Amy Matthews from Sweat Equity, and Ahmed Hasan from Yard Crashers.  Just click here.

Mark is gone this coming week teaching clinics at the Remodeling Show, so I’m thinking about trying it out…we’ll see.
