Give the gift of Home Improvement this Father’s Day

Not sure what to give for Father’s Day? Why not give the gift of a completed home improvement project?

For years I was challenged to come up with the perfect gift for Father’s Day. And I think that I’m not alone. Buying a gift for dad or your husband can be challenging. And getting the stereotypical necktie or shirt isn’t always something the man in your life really needs or wants.

But I know something that most every dad would like to have. And that’s more time. So why not try to complete a home improvement project that he’s been avoiding or just doesn’t want to do?

Like most men, my husband isn’t shy about the projects he wants to complete. So last Father’s Day, we tackled one of them: cleaning out the basement to make more room for his workshop.

And this year, we’ve found out that 1 out of 3 dads would prefer a completed home improvement project rather than receive the new necktie. A recent survey from our friends at HomeAdvisor found out the top projects that dads would love for someone to else to do: painting interior rooms, cleaning the windows, and pressure washing outside surfaces.

It makes sense to me that dads would like to get those maintenance jobs done. They are essential to having a well-maintained and beautiful home, but they aren’t necessarily the glamour projects like building an outdoor structure or installing a new TV.

If you aren’t sure about your skills to clean the windows or use a pressure washer to clean your deck, you might want to think about hiring a professional. A great resourse is HomeAdvisor.com. There are more than 80,000 pre-screened professionals with reviews and rating froms people who have actually hired them to complete a project. And there are cost guides for more than 850 home improvement projects, with average costs listed both nationally and locally. So you can give the gift of home improvement, even if your dad lives in another part of the country, and be sure that you are hiring someone who can do a great job.

And, best of all, your dad will have that extra time back in his life to do something else he loves.
