Real Deal, Hands-On Review
I don’t need a 4-foot stepladder to install door casing, but that’s what I’ve used because that’s what I have on my truck. A 4-foot stepladder is the go-to for at least 80 percent of my remodeling work.
To use the ladder, I have to unearth it from my truck, move it around the room and then it takes up valuable floor space.
I can’t just kick it across the floor to reposition it like I can with the Worx Storage Step Stool. With the Worx, I can just grab it out of my truck, walk it onto the site, carrying it in one hand, put it on the floor and skate it around with light kicks.
It slides without tipping and at 14 inches deep, 10½ inches wide, and 13 inches high, it’s wide enough to stand on comfortably and—here it is—just tall enough to make me tall enough.
Storage Inside the Stool
Three things to say about storage:
- It stores easily. It’s a cube. Nothing stores better than a cube. Its stout handle folds down flush and the nice lid latch doesn’t stick out.
- It also stores a decent amount of stuff—a few hand tools, an impact driver, some fasteners, my tool pouch (lid open). I’m a contractor, so I’m not looking for storage of sundries, because I have thousands of items, but I put stuff in it sometimes. Even if it’s just for a few minutes or because I don’t want to (or can’t because it’s jammed with end of job detritus) climb all the way into the tool truck to put a few things away.
- It stores my butt. The thing is an excellent place to sit and eat lunch, tap on the iPad or make a call. It’s low for what would ideally be my lunch table—my OmniTable Plus—but as a general spot to sit, it’s great. I can see some gardeners liking this, as well.
Legit Gift Idea
Professional tool users almost never like the tools or clever job site gifts that well-intended loved ones give them.
However, the Worx Storage Step Stool is so good at the things it’s designed for—and harmless to the daily workings of shop or site—that I’d recommend it as a gift for a tool user.
DIY or pro, it’s easy to find a use for this storage stool.
