I love, love, love tools that make home improvement faster and better. I’m nuts for a tight trim job and Hitachi’s NT 65MA4(S), despite its cumbersome model number is a winner in my book. If you’re looking for a finish nailer, see below for more details.
If this tool review goes right, it shows my nearly eternal love for the Hitachi NT 65MA4(S) 15-gauge angled finish nailer.
Let’s start with balance. Sweet heaven above, this gray gun of good work is awesomely balanced and perfectly proportioned. I can get it in inside corners. Seriously, I don’t now how people use straight mag finish nailers; I know they do and a big part of that is that the nails are cheaper, but there are trade-offs I’m unwilling to make.
The trigger is adjustable for single or bump fire without having to install some ridiculous after-market trigger.
There are zero hooks on it. While I use hooks when they come with a tool, I don’t miss them when they’re not there. Nice non-feature here.
The line of site to the work is awesome, so when I really need to see where the nail is going—or that I have to tool positioned properly—I can. Say I just spent a bunch of time figuring out how to notch a piece of trim, the last thing I want to do is to make the 112 little cuts, get it perfect, then blow a nail out the side.
The body is slim—not so with other tools that could use a gym membership or a NutriBullet—so it fits in my toolboxes nicely with it’s neighbors narrow crown stapler and brad nailer.
Then there is the category buster: The on-board blow gun. Oh sweet home improvement goodness how I never thought I’d love you then, like Harry falling in love with Sally at the end of the movie, I fell in love with you.
Sure, I bumped into you a few times and you scared the crap out of me, but I came back for make-up work and we were happy together.
And that’s how my home improvement tool review love story ends. Happy and together. Building cool stuff.
I know you’re just a nail gun, but if that guy can make that movie about falling in love with an ersatz Siri, I can fall in love with you.
And the award goes to…
