Create some beautiful plant beds

Plants are one of the best ways to take your garden from drab and to fab. When choosing them, make sure you have a good mix of plants to create depth and texture. Think about the colors you want and the types of plants that will work best for your zone. If you’re not very green fingered, you might want to find some plants that are easier to look after and don’t require too much maintenance. Usually plants that are native to the area are the best picks.

You can also look at making some beautiful raised plant beds that are ideal for displaying flowers or gardening veggies. This is a great DIY project. It’s not only fun to do, but it also looks amazing when it’s done, is useful, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to implement.

Divide up your garden

Make sure to allocate space to relax, as well as space to entertain or dine. And if there are kids in the household, spaces for kids to play are essential. Divide up your backyard into different areas. Make sure there are clear boundaries which are for relaxing and those which are for playing in. A fence or privacy screen can help divide areas, and consider sorting out any fence repair work if you have an older fence.

Be clear about which bits of the yard are for gardening, for playing football or soccer or for hosting BBQs and relaxing. If you don’t want to use a fence, consider other types of spacial dividers like plant beds, water features, bushes, or a shed that can create a divide between the different spaces.

Think about the lighting

Lighting is such an important feature for any yard, but especially when you are creating a garden oasis. It’s often something that many people forget about until you need the ambiance and light during a get-together.

  • You could make some storm lanterns that are ideal for languid summer evenings.
  • Sit with flickering candles under the moonlight and enjoy the last of the warmth with friends and family.
  • You could also string fairy lights over your fencing.
  • Place solar lights that you can stick into the ground or on vertical fixed features like a shed or pergola and light up pathways.

Consider the furniture

The furniture you use in your garden oasis is another great way to make it a beautiful space for relaxing. Find some comfortable chairs and a table that you can enjoy both during the day and for dining. You could add a fire pit which is not only a great centrepiece, but also a spot to keep warm when the evenings turn chillier. It’s a good idea to get waterproof covers for your chair to protect them from the elements.

Add water features

Water features are another beautiful element to add to your garden oasis. Water is not only beautiful to look at, but the sounds of trickling water can be extremely relaxing, too. Consider if you want something such as a fountain, a pond, or a decorative feature to add to your space. All can be beautiful. It depends on how much space you have, your budget, and what you’re looking to achieve.

These are just a few things you can do to create your own backyard oasis. Whether you’re looking to make it a beautiful space to spend time in yourself or because you’re selling your house and want it to be as appealing as possible to new buyers, there are a myriad of options.
