How to easily fix cracked wood or chipped ceramic

Fixing a chipped ceramic bottle isn’t as hard as it might seem, and a beginning DIYer can also fix cracked wood coaster in an afternoon.

How to fix a chipped ceramic bottle

I shared an easy how-to video on fixing a chipped ceramic mug. The same fix I showed in the blog on MyFixitUpLife.com and in a video on YouTube will work for a ceramic bottle. For those who haven’t checked out that how-to, here’s a quick summary.

Clean the cracked surfaces, mix epoxy with pastels dust to match the color of the surface, and fill the crack. For those who use this method to fix an item that’s usually microwaved, be careful. The reason is that a ceramic mug that’s been mended with epoxy. Epoxy and ceramic will heat up a little differently, and it could cause separation in the fix.

For a cracked wooden coaster, it’s a different fix.

We recommend cleaning the surfaces, sanding the cracked area, then overfilling the crack with some wood filler.

You may be able to find wood filler that is a similar color. If you can’t find a perfect match, we would use the closest match, and then consider using a wood stain on all of the coasters so the set matches. Minwax makes small, easy-to-apply toothpaste tube-sized wood stain in a variety of colors.

After the filler is dry, then sand it smooth. We would then clear seal the entire coaster set to help prevent further cracking.
