This may come as a shock, but NOT all wood feature walls must be made with shiplap. We’ve created a few shiplap walls, and we like the look. However, not every budget is big enough for shiplap, and not every DIYer has the time to install enough wood to cover an entire wall.
Using wood in a graphic pattern is a modern alternative to creating a unique and eye-catching accent wall. For this project, a client found a similar look online and wanted the look for her living room. It’s also the first thing you see when you walk through the front door.
Painted in the the same color as the wall color, in a cool grey paint color, the shadow lines from the wood become the star players in this design scheme.

The trick is using 1×2 primed pine to create an array of boards that, taken as a whole, create a pleasing texture and depth to a wall that was just, you know, there-ish.
