How to select basement flooring

Basement flooring has its own special requirements beyond style and budget. Specifically, the underlayment is the biggest consideration for long-term quality, durability, and comfort. We make sure we are selecting the best options for a client’s lifestyle.

How do we select basement flooring for a client?

For a client who needs a budget-friendly basement floor and doesn’t want to sacrifice on style, we take the time to do a little homework. We want to make sure what we recommend is a durable and comfortable choice.

We checked out a variety of beachy wood-look options in porcelain, ceramic tile, laminate, vinyl, and LVP at our local Floor & Decor. After weighing the options, the pre-attached anti-microbial underlayment on one made it a winner for us.

When choosing an engineered product like LVP, we think that what’s under it is just as important as how it looks once installed.

Why is the underlayment so important?

Underlayment is crucial when installing flooring over concrete—whether that’s a basement reno or a house built on a slab. Because the more robust the underlayment, the more the floor will absorb inevitable unevenness in the substrate. Plus, the better feet will feel over time. And, the more choices we have, the better we can serve our customers.

If you are planning a tile or flooring project, it’s worth a trip to Floor & Decor to see and touch all of the great options and leave with a few samples.
