If you are thinking about improving your home, you might have so many ideas that it’s tough to get started. How do you get the most bang for your buck and get what you want as the same time? Here’s how to come up with a plan so you can start a remodeling project with confidence.

Start With A Vision
First off, before you start a remodeling project, make sure that you really know what you are aiming for and why. If you have a clear vision, then you are much more likely to be able to renovate your home in a way that is suitable and enjoyable for you. So make sure that you are thinking about that and that you do all you can to really be able to figure out a vision you can be happy with.
Start by brainstorming. Write everything down that you want to do. By having a list you can then go back and group projects by type or by room, and then rank order them by priority.
Focus On Some Key Spaces
There are certain parts of the home that are most important to you. If those spaces aren’t in working order and reflect your current style and mojo, then consider focusing on those first. Yes, it’s easier to change out the knobs in the kitchen, but if you can’t fit in the undersized bathtub and you love a bubble bath, then devote your energy to the bath. Your life will improve because you’ll be in a better headspace to deal with the weird and wacky that happens in a world full of humans. Make sure you renovate the spaces that make the most sense for you.
Consider Your Budget
Despite everything, when you start a remodeling project you still have to bear in mind the budget. Budgets are like time, they are finite. (And unlike ideas which are infinite!) Your finances are going to affect what you are actually able to achieve in your renovation. So, it’s vital that you are thinking about how much money you are likely to have available without affecting your regular lifestyle. You’ll also need to look at the various costs associated, whether it’s the cost to finish a basement or the cost of new tiling and paint and so on. Make sure you consider every penny you will need to spend.
Mix Function & Style
Whichever remodeling project you are focused on, you will find it beneficial to mix function and style in the final design. If you focus too much on style and not on function, the final space won’t be useful. Same with focusing too much on function. It may work well, but it could be a dread to be in the space. I always suggest starting with the vision of how you want to use the space, and think about how you feel inside of it. Then it’s easier to make choices that aren’t solely based on function or style. By blending the two, you can achieve the remodeling project you desire.
