Kitchen Renovation Mistakes: Installation Confusion

For this American Woodmark kitchen we installed, organized layout was critical to efficiency and accuracy.

Question: What are the biggest kitchen renovation mistakes to avoid?

Answer: There’s no single answer to this question from our perspective. From framing issues to kitchen islands, every house, homeowner, project, and set of expectations are different. However, there are challenges and conditions that almost always come up on kitchen renos. Check out these six trouble spots.

1. For the contractor or installer, eliminating what we call “installation confusion” is near the top of the list. It may not seem like it but kitchens—especially big, tricked out cocinas—have a trillion parts. We label the walls and/or floors where cabinets and appliances go with the part number from the plan. That helps us organize where the boxes (which also have the part number on the label) go when we load them into the site. And if there is something missing, we know what it is and where it goes.
