Lawn Care While Remodeling

Question: I’m putting a new kitchen in my house and it requires some serious renovations. Anyway, I feel pretty good about the contractors doing the work. What I’m really worried about is my lawn. I visited a project this contractor did in my neighborhood and there were tools and materials all over.

Great question. Before the remodel starts, get a sense of where the contractor is going to set up his stuff. In fact, work it out ahead of time and have a checklist to go over before the project starts.

To save your lawn, let the grass grow in the areas where the contractors will be laying their gear and working. I call it the “county fair parking principle”. Never notice when you go to the county fair in the summer and the parking lot is just a giant field that is being trampled by thousands of cars? They keep the ground from getting torn apart by letting the grass grow very tall prior to the trampling.
