Despite what you may have seen on TV, the key to demolition is to work smart more so than to hit hard.
Bashing stuff with a sledge hammer just ain’t where it’s at unless you’re breaking a rock. For my money, taking stuff out in the reverse order it was built is faster, easier and safer. And the smarter—and yes tougher—the tool, the better. It is demo after all. Roofer’s World’s Little Red was introduced to us as a tear off tool for tight spots on the roof: notably around roof penetrations like skylights, plumbing vents, bathroom vents and the like.
However, we’ve found myriad other uses for it. The tool’s detailed front and back teeth enable you to get at nails and staples to detach nailed down roof parts, but they also enable you to pierce claddings and get behind stuff like siding, trim, gutter brackets and all kinds of other stuff. The tool’s angle of attack to the work—what some carpenters call “fetch”—is ideal for optimum leverage on a hard-to-release board or fastener.
We haven’t tried it in every application but there’s no reason I can think of Little red won’t bite into or break apart flooring, tile, lath, and all kinds of other stuff. Little red rips it up.
