A dozen former and current NFL players team up with Lowe’s for a fun DIY contest.
With a new DIY challenge posed each month of this football season and a new line of NFL team paint colors launching, the Lowe’s DIY contest has created a quite a stir. (eye-roll pun definitely intended)
What are the prizes for this DIY contest?
If you participate in the Lowe’s Home Team Contest, you will have the chance to be drafted onto the Lowe’s Home Team. What does that mean? Well, some will win a limited-edition, official Lowe’s Home Team jersey designed by professional artist and apparel customizer Marcus Rivero (aka Soles by Sir). Plus, they’ll have a chance to win the top prize: a trip for two to Super Bowl LVI.
How do you enter the Lowe’s Home Team Contest?
Just as a game has four quarters, there are four challenges in this contest. However, there’s a chance to win each quarter and each quarter has a different theme, requiring different skill sets. They include Home Tailgating, NFL Team Paint Colors, DIY Project Victory Dance, and Holiday Team Decorating. Any DIYer at any skill level can partake in one of these.
For each of the four contests, Lowe’s requires photos of the DIY project, social posts with #LowesHomeTeam and #Contest tags, and a 1,250-character or less statement about the project.
The Lowe’s Home Team are led by Lowe’s Home Team General Manager Drew Brees (QB – Retired). Members are Kelvin Beachum (OT), Calais Campbell (DE), Steve Hutchison (Guard—Hall of Fame), Travis Kelce (TE), Jaylon Smith (LB), and Robert Woods (WR) will join Justin Fields (QB), Chris Godwin (WR), Najee Harris (RB), Matt Light (OT), and Christian McCaffrey (RB).
Lowe’s says: “NFL stars will also go beyond home to make an impact in communities through repair and renovation projects alongside Lowe’s associates.”
And, I’m here for that.
NFL players have a long history of volunteering in their local communities. We’ve had the opportunity to volunteer alongside NFL players in the past. While working to rebuild homes during Rebuilding Together’s Super Bowl projects in New Orleans after Katrina and in the New York area after Superstorm Sandy, we also had a chance to help NFL players judge a fun barbecue contest (see below). Volunteering and participating in local events are great ways to give back and support the communities that proudly cheer them on every week of the football season.
As for the NFL paint colors?
I love this. We’ve used Glidden’s official NFL paint colors (not available anymore, sadly) to create a few fun projects. Favorites are a Spartan Race training wall and a dog house with a little mini-grassy football field terrace on top for the pup to lounge in the sun (see below).
Valspar’s paint colors for all 32 NFL teams don’t seem to be available just yet. However, it’s not surprising. There was an announcement on April 1, 2021 in the UK that the paint company entered into an agreement with the NFL UK to become the Official Color Partner of the NFL in the UK and Ireland. Why the UK? There are about 15 million NFL fans there.
