I love Lucky magazine. It’s the best of shopping, curled up on the couch.
And I love that I find more than just shoes and style inside the pages of the magazine, supporting my belief that style doesn’t end when you hit skin. The fashion-conscious also often have hearts to match.
And in a recent issue of the magazine, I tore a page out that spoke to me on both levels. First, it spoke to my addiction to red polish. Committed to the color so much that I can’t remember when my toes have had another color. And they showed a shade of OPI that I can’t resist.
But when I read the article about how money is donated to help fight leukemia when you purchase the ‘I Love DKMS’ color, I did the head-tilt we girls do.
The author of the article wrote that it’s hard to feel that you are making a dent in the world when you wear a bracelet or write a check. And it’s true. I wear a Livestrong bracelet, and have worn the same bracelet for about five years. I started wearing it for my sister-in-law who eventually lost her battle with melanoma. And then for my grandfather who lost his battle with lung cancer.
And I wear the yellow bracelet as a reminder that while life may be stressful at times, and we may be busy juggling our kids and our work, Mark and I really are lucky inside my home to have a healthy and happy family.
The Lucky magazine article not only persuaded me to try a new nail color, it also moved me to register to be a bone marrow donor. So thank you Lucky. I hope that the article inspired many others to do the same.
