Mark is celebrating the winter solstice in questionable traditional style.

There’s a bear, a cape, and a staff involved in the winter solstice celebration at our house.

Mark’s cosplay rituals have nothing to do with comics.

He celebrates the light of Arthur with a Tyvek cape, primed finger-jointed pine staff, and a stuffed bear for the winter solstice.

The winter solstice happens at 11:49amET on December 22 this year, when the Earth is tilted -23.5 degrees in its most southerly direction. The sun is directly over the Tropic of Capricorn and is closer to the horizon than any other time during the year.

Our family has always remarked about the winter solstice, and rejoice in the fact that starting on that date, the sun will shine upon on for a little longer every next day, for the next six months.

Fascinated as we are with the Druids, Stone Henge, and anything worthy of airtime on the History Channel, we spent a little more time reading about the rituals associated with the winter solstice.

An inspired Mark recreated his cosplay version of the King Arthur Pendragon who is symbolically reborn as the Sun Child. Winter solstice means The Light of Arthur in Druidry.
