Mixing metals is on-trend. Let’s talk the ‘how-to-do-it’ & and ‘the-why.’
Theresa
When I see mixing metals in a room, I immediately think that the homeowner is a bit more sophisticated than the average bear.
It’s true that using more than one kind of metal in the same room used to be a bit taboo.
We’ve obsessed over the doorknob, drawer pulls, lighting, hooks… in a way that doesn’t need to happen. Mixing metals, in a tasteful and careful way, can turn heads in a major way.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that mixing metals is a trend, since we’ve been mixing metals in fashion for several years. It just takes a few years for home décor and design to follow fashion.
Reason? Home design can be a larger, longer-term investment for the owner, and sometimes a fashion trend is just that. If it’s a too-trendy or over-the-top trend, it won’t take root in home décor and interior design. We’re a bit more conservative about our homes.
