I still have sap on my hands from making the MyFixitUpLife “tree.”

I borrowed an idea from timberframers who nail a tree branch to the frame as they build it, in honor of the trees that supplied the wood for the home.

In some ways it is emblematic of those who won’t be with us this holiday yet will never be far away, so I will dedicate this project to my mom, 1945-2011.

I made it from 6×6 Western Red Cedar I had in the shop, leftovers from a project. I cut a mortise and tenon joint for the peak then fastened it to some “feet” so Jack would be less inclined (or able) to haul it over.

The branch is from a White Pine tree. It smells better than fresh-baked cookies…to me anyway…
