Check out MyFixitUpLife’s Father’s Day Gift Guide for the DIY dad in your life. Or just for cool gear that gets work done.
I love storage. Smart, versatile organized tool and gear storage. Why? Probably because I have an equal and opposite disdain for looking for stuff. I’m really digging the HUSKY Rolling Connect System. It’s smartly designed, has solid and simple connections and enables me to store ‘categories’ of tools. I have all my drywall stuff in one bin, routers in another. Fasteners in a third. And it rolls like a suitcase. Nice.
Work clothes are an awesome Father’s Day gift in my book. While hard core pro stuff can be pricey I’ve found some really good gear from Jobman USA with good prices to boot. I have their workpants and two sweat shirts and I like all three. See the the pants do their stuff in action in this video.
Got an iPhone or Android you want to keep in one piece? I am totally digging my MeeMojo phone case. Rugged, cool looking and a good conversation starter. Read the full review here.
Safety glasses are probably more in the ‘stocking stuffer’ category in the Father’s Day gift arena. Largely because on the job, they’re just an afterthought most of the time. Which is part of what I like best about the best-ever safety glasses from 3M. Read my full (one-paragraph) review at Fine Homebuilding to learn more.
I’m also in one of those ‘Why didn’t I do this years ago’ swoons over the 3M face shield. Sure, you can use it for letting loose with the angle grinder, but I love it for simply keeping airborne dust off my face like doing demo jobs.
The rugged radios I’ve seen—sound machines equally at home dumped in the back yard while you build your garden, under a saw bench, or rattling around in the pick-up—have been a vexing blend of electronics that should work better than they actually do. I think DeWalt has homed in on a Father’s Day gift with this sensible and well-designed jobsite radio.
Hyde Multi-tool. Just watch this video. You’ll see.
I would enjoy getting this for a Father’s Day gift. Husky’s 15-inch tool bag is based on the classic—and one of my favorite—tool organization designs: The riggers’ bag. Instead of being made of cotton, this one’s cordura and a great way to store and organize tools.
If you’re new to DIY or home ownership, I always recommend buying a cordless drill/hammer drill like this Ryobi. This one is compact, easy to use, has a really nice grip and plenty of power for drilling holes in wood, driving screws and popping small holes in concrete or masonry.
Happy Father’s Day. Now get to work.
