I love building pergolas. I love what they do for back yard and garden spaces. They can be overwrought for sure: if you have a pergola covering your entire back yard, you might have overdone it if you know what I mean.
However, in all my years of building outdoor structures I never really thought of the driveway of a typical suburban home benefiting from such a structure. But, low and behold, it sure can work as a terrific solution for empty blacktop–if treated right and designed to scale. That’s my take on the pergola shown here.
