The Weather Channel challenged me to makeover an old ceiling fan.
When I was asked to update an old ceiling fan for The Weather Channel, I immediately went to my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Reason is that I’d already replaced the old ceiling fan we inherited from the previous owner of our 110-year-old home.
I picked up a fan with light for under $40, and it was perfect. It’s the exact white ceiling fan that I’ve seen so many times before, which makes this makeover make sense for more of us.
My mojo lately has been on this masculine luxe vibe, so I went beyond the challenge of just using paint or add-ons to makeover the ceiling fan.
I decided to take the fan apart, and reconstruct it so that it looks like it was born in copper. I used copper wire, copper sheets, duct tape straps, and metallic paint.
The only thing I would do differently next time is create more of a structure for the cage, using more wire to create something like the boning in a corset. But, I’m delighted by the result.
