If there’s one thing I keep running into as I remodel, it’s that space is at a greater premium than ever.
Whether it’s an old house with limited closet or bedroom space, someone converting the guest room into a home office (without losing the need for guest quarters), or a family growing beyond its bedroom space, there never seems to be enough room.
On the other end of the spectrum, some houses are swimming in extra space. But there’s so much of it — the famed “bonus” or “rec” rooms — that it gets used for everything and the space is quickly inundated with a home gym, ping pong table, laptop desk, and pull-out couch your in-laws or college roommate stays on. Not exactly conducive to order or calm or real purpose.
