Our Tool Test Results

We used what we consider to be the sublimely designed Bosch 6 ½-inch corded track saw cutting most of the things track saws cut: Sheet goods, an old door, composite decking, etc.

But first a bit of history. While Festool was the first to make a track saw a stand-alone tool, there had been site-made track saws for, roughly, ever. It is called a “shoot board.” Made with ½-inch plywood, it is a saw guide you can make yourself that is supremely effective.

Track saws are arguably better and of the track saws I’ve used (roughly all of them), the Bosch is by far my favorite.

Why? The complexity imbued in other brands or the sometimes infuriating cord-less-ness (that’s right, batteries aren’t perfect) of other saws, the Bosch did the most the best.

What did it do the best?

The 12.5-foot cord is a mile long, supple and stores easily. The tool–-which I bet few of us use daily–-is not a place where batteries disappear. Ask me how I know.

It is also beautifully simple. The progenitor of the category tends to the complex. There are lots of switches and releases and nuances that don’t land with me. If  there is a secret handshake to operate the saw, no thanks.

The Bosch track saw is plush. Super simple to operate and my favorite part is how easily the saw’s shoe engages the rail.

The included blade is nice, the storage box is excellent. And the unit I got comes with 100 or so inches of connectable track–-most of any oher saw I have seen.
