When we were in the middle of renovating our kitchen, I announced to Mark that I wanted a tile backsplash.
His reply: “Are we EVER going to finish this project?”
Rightly so. It’s been months since we finished every other part of the kitchen remodel, and it’s gorgeous. But, we’ve had to switch gears to replacing our roof and, well, various other FixitUp projects between there and here.
And for the last few weeks Mark keeps asking: “Are you EVER going to pick the tile for the backsplash?”
I thought I had picked it. I had imagined that we’d use an iridescent glass mosaic tile from Daltile. I called and asked for samples of their Oyster White, Verde, Azul Verde and Kihea Blue in the Sonterra collection.
When the samples arrived: I created a pattern so that the Oyster White would help blend in the white outlet covers in the backsplash.
I thought I had finally figured out the tile question. So, when Mark asked if I had picked the tile, I could say, YES!
But, then, I saw a vase I received from my mother-in-law on the counter near the beautiful tile samples. It had river rocks at the bottom of it, and they caught my eye and my imagination. They would be perfect as a backsplash.
So, when Mark came off the roof at the end of a long day, I announced that I had completely changed my mind on the tile.
He was dismayed by my backwards progress until I showed him the website for StrataStones.
StrataStones has 12″x12″ interlocking tile in stone sizes from 3/4″ to 2 1/2″ in colors that include blue, green, grey, brown, white, and more. Extreme Makeover Home Edition and HGTV shows have used them in projects, and there’s tons of beauty shots and installation information on the website.
We just received samples of the StrataStones Glazed Maui Turtle Pebble Tile and the Glazed Green Pebble Tile in the mail.
I put all of the tile on the kitchen counter, and I now know what I’m going to use for our kitchen.
What do you think?
