When I see low-quality PVC boards and molding in a remodeling and molding project, I cringe. Shiny, plastic-y, brittle-y…Not my cup of tea-y.
When we build and remodel, we want grace and staying power. We want any remodeling and molding project to look good from the street—and even greater from 6-inches away. That means the molding will hold paint, won’t reflect the sun like a mirror, and has the mass and texture—or lack of texture—we want.
One extra advantage to achieving that look are crisp edges and clean cut, which we achieve using everything from materials appropriate for the application to proper detailing like flashing to using the right bits and blades to cut and shape the wood into the design we envision. It’s amazing what you can do with some 1-by boards, miter saw, table saw, router, nailer, and a little imagination.
