Senco Fusion: Awesome—AWESOME—I said, finish nailer
When I see a game-changing new tool for the FixitUp Life, I get fired up. To quantify how fired up Senco’s new Fusion cordless finish nailers has me, think wild-fire.
So, if any type of wood-working or trim (base, case, crown, chair rail, etc) is on your menu, dig in. A frothy mug of game-changing tool is on tap. I hasten to add, this stimulating brew is coming from the tool’s unveiling at The International Builder’s Show where we are previewing it for Cool Tools’ Chris Grundy, so let’s get crackin’!
The High-Points, starting with the bottom line. Senco’s Fusion finish nailer is a compact power-house with an attractive price—and a vast improvement over other nailers I’ve used in terms of nail delivery, size, balance, and cost. That’s not enough? Check out the details.
Fusion is powered by a Lithium Ion battery so forget about compressors and hoses. Also ditch expensive and finicky fuel cells. Fusion is literally un-plug and play!
Fusion fires on demand (Senco calls this Reflex Shot technology) like a pneumatic tool. No ramp-up period like other cordless nailers. And, the tool weighs in about 2.5 pounds lighter than other cordless tools—yes! The balance is terrific!
[OK, Mark, calm down…deep breaths.]
Senco tricked Fusion out with little details that make big differences to well-done projects.
> There are two models so you can rap your mitts around the tool that best meets your needs.
The FN55AX: 18-gauge tool dispenses 5/8” – 2-1/8” galvanized nails making it ideal for trim and workbench projects.
The FN65DA 15-gauge (thicker nail) tool is better suited for beefier
trims and crowns and flooring.
> A tool-less depth of drive adjustment lets you adjust how deep the nail drives.
> The lithium ion battery platform means you can let the tool sit for long periods without it losing its charge—love it. It pops about 500 nails on a full-charge—double love it. And it can re-charge (80% in about 15 minutes) while you take a coffee break—Dunkin’ Donuts anyone?
Somebody peel me off the ceiling. Chris Grundy will be here in a few minutes and I need to look cool. Check this tool out!
Both tools will be available from SENCO dealers nationwide beginning spring 2010. For more information, visit www.senco.com or www.sencofusiontools.com.
