Oil and Water
I’m fired up about how green the building game is compared to just four years ago. I’m excited about products and processes making homes easier on the world — and more comfortable to live in. The world is not our dumpster, and it shouldn’t be treated that way.
When it comes to paints and coatings, the green trend is toward water-based products. But having started my career painting with oil, I have to stick by it for some applications. Even for treating really exposed-to-the-weather surfaces outside the home — like decks, fences, and other outdoor structures — water-based products are coming on strong. But they haven’t supplanted, in my mind anyway, the need for oil-based products when it comes to preserving wood.
