With 50 percent certified recycled content, new sustainable power tools from Stanley Black & Decker and Eastman are on the way to market.
Sustainable is a hot word in the building industry. And, it’s an attention-grabber for many consumers who want to decrease their carbon footprint and live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. It’s just not a word that I hear a lot around power tools. So, it’s intriguing and fills me full of promise that a major tool maker like Stanley Black & Decker is launching a new line with sustainability as the statement.
The power tools are part of a partnership with Eastman. To engineer them, they use the Tritan Renew material produced through molecular recycling. It’s a different kind of recycling than mechanical recycling, and it can transform single-use plastic into durable materials. Reducing fossil-based resources, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and using 50 percent recycled content with the tools. They will also use 100 percent recyclable and frustration-free packaging.
The tool company says that the new reviva line is in alignment with their Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy. Plus, it helps them achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By 2025, the company plans to use 100 percent reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging, too.
“At Stanley Black & Decker, we work to inspire makers and innovators to create a more sustainable world, and that effort starts with us,” said Stanley Black & Decker CEO Jim Loree. “Every day, we aim to live our purpose – For Those Who Make The World – and elevate our commitment to corporate social responsibility, and creating new eco-friendly products is one way of achieving that mission.”
Yes, we want to try out the new revival line of sustainable power tools. We hope to share a review by the time they hit the market in early 2022.
