Question

I want to repaint the ceiling of a wrap around porch with the “Tiffany and Co.” paint color. I wonder if you had anything that was this color that I can provide to my painters for them to match?

And the floor is a battleship kind of grey. Do you think that’s a good color or is there another color in the Tiffany palette that should be considered for the floor? I was only familiar with the blue.

Answer

The Tiffany paint color is a popular request, but this is the first time I’ve been asked about it for a ceiling. Many people are scared of painting the ceiling a different color than the typical white. However, porch ceilings were often historically blue to match the color of the sky. But I like your color idea better.

Paint color options.

Tiffany uses a proprietary color, which isn’t offered as part of paint collections. So it’s a matter of dissecting the color or choosing a close match. I used Cooled Blue from Sherwin-Williams when I wanted the Tiffany color at a bakery in New Jersey. Cooled Blue is on the slightly green side of the Tiffany color. I chose the greenish side since it was on a flat vertical exterior.

Mariner from Sherwin-Williams also is a close-match. Mariner is a bit more blue. But both will look like Tiffany if you have white next to it and if there are any fixtures use lightbulbs that mimic midday light that’s like 5000 to 6500 K. Sherwin-Williams has a lightbox in their stores where you can view the colors in different lights. Having white trim around the color can help make the Tiffany statement, like with the white ribbon on the company’s signature box.

Regarding the floor color.

The Tiffany brand is pretty focused on just the two colors. And I think that grey is a good color, as it lets the white and blue shine. It’s a background color that blends well. To make it sing like Tiffany, I’d add a little sparkle with the lighting or decor, though. And use the ceiling color as part of the color palette in soft furnishings like pillows or an outdoor rug.

Hope this helps!
