It just takes a minute to fix that squeaky door.
If you are hearing a squeaky sound whenever you open or shut your door, you can fix that annoying sound yourself. It’s not always the installer’s error that causes a squeak, it may be that the door is old and it needs some maintenance. And old doors sometimes mean squeaky hinges.
Supplies you’ll need
Beyond the door, you’ll need just two items for this quick fix:
Petroleum jelly or WD-40
Paper towels or a rag
How to fix the door
Quiet those squeaks and creaks with some lubricant like petroleum jelly or WD-40. It only requires a little bit. Just apply the lubricant to the hinges, making sure to get it on the entire hinge.
If you use a spray lubricant or see any excess on the hinge, use a paper towel with you to chase any drips.
After applying the lubricant, test out the result by opening and shutting the door. You should be hearing…just the sound of the door moving.
