Tool Review: Milwaukee M18 Battery Lawn Mower

Mark-Milwaukee-Lawn-Mower

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 21″ Self-Propelled Dual Battery Lawn Mower Kit is the first cordless lawnmower–price notwithstanding–that is lawn-trailer ready.

Let’s talk lawn mower details.

Holy smokes, is this thing built for life on the trailer, banging around bumpy yards, hauling down tangled snarls of overgrown turf.

The deck is beast mode on the Milwaukee lawn mower. The handle is the stuff of steel on steel. No give. No fluff. The adjustments sharp, crisp and easy to make. And then there’s the runtime.

In the video, I mowed a tangle of grass and weeds in my small, but chopped up (meaning, that battery runs for an hour–and there’s two of them–while I walk back and forth) yard.

You’ll also see runtime + power when the mower has to sink into really, really dense material. I love that it has another gear, so to speak. And it does. Stress Big Red, and Big Red comes back with a counter punch. In other words, it runs at Chooch. And when needed, here comes Full Chooch.

Is the Milwaukee lawn mower easy to use?

The grips are comfortable. I think it’s self-propelled (I know it is, but I’m old school), but as long as I can push a mower, I’m going to.

The double charger that comes with the Milwaukee lawn mower is awesome.

Lawn-trailer-ready assumes there’s what’s called shore power. In other words, a way to charge the batteries between jobs, and a way to keep them dry.

Why is it so expensive?

Also, price notwithstanding: $1,200 for a lawn mower is insane.

Gone are the hours of spark plugs, oil changes, and other maintenance. This puppy is plug and play and for what I see the commercial blow and go guys–they’ll ride a 56-inch mower around a pear tree 37 times before they push mow.

But, this Milwaukee lawn mower will last all day.
