I’m not a dedicated floor sanding mechanic. I’m a carpenter who installs and sands floors as part of the larger remodeling package. For my business model, it makes more sense — and is a profit center — to tackle this typically specialized work. I do a lot of room-by-room remodeling which means sanding one floor is such a small job for a sub-contractor that scheduling one (oh, and finding one that’ll show up) is more headache than it’s worth. My favorite machine to date for this work is U-Sand’s random orbit floor sanding machine. I’ve used it finishing raw floors and knocking down an existing finish prior to re-finishing. I’m happy with the results.
