As a remodeler I’ve actually spend a good deal of time behind a lawn mower. Whether it’s rescuing a spec house’s lawn that’s gone way past seed, tuning up a customer’s lawn that has over-grown because my tools and lumber prevented it during an extended project, or I’ve just let my own get away from me. Also, I’m not one for hiring out work I can do myself.
Either way, the reality is that my business model has always worked best with me doing a lot of the work–even if it’s outside my core competency in some regards–because, notably, I keep all the money. I also stay both busy and present in the neighborhood.
